The good weather the last couple of weeks, combined with the fact that we are talking the first spring month, brought some good news our way. The golf courses in Norway are opening. Actually, some on the other side of the country have been open a long time already, but the ones here in our area are just opening. Great news, at least that is what I thought when I booked a tee-time at Huseby og Hankø Golfbane and convinced The Son to tag along. We did it Scottish-style, of course …. Right from the car and hit the first drive of the year off the tee. Mine was a blooper, so to speak, but No6 put his drive 190 meters closer to the pin … but the approach was “out of here”
Wind, some great shots, some bad shots and even worse shots + 4 degrees freezing cold, made us want to get in the car and get the hell out there. But we did finish the 9 holes, and apart from being hard as a dick, the course was in pretty good condition. I don’t think they had expected -3 degrees during night and in the morning … that made the ground pretty damn tough to hit at.
To conclude ….. killing a course on the simulator is way easier than even do ok outside. That put aside, and some of the really bad shots as well, there was a lot to be happy with. The Irons are straighter and better than expected, the driver is ok, the putting is pretty good, at least since I was so cold I just hurried to putt so I could stick my hand down the pants again. The Son figured out some stuff along the course and all in all it was a good and cold day at the course.
The place and the cold made me think back to the last time I did an early round at the same course. After some digging and phoning around, I did find out when it was. 3. April 2005 … together with HebbeLille, Donald and Bowker …. again I went down memory lane ….
