Day 1: The travel

First thing first … Travelling is usually the worst part of the trip, at least for me, but going to Scotland on a golf trip you usually have something to look forward to the same day. Not wine and dine, but the fact that it takes approx 15 minutes from any airport in Scotland to find a proper golf course to hit some balls.

Pre-trip fuck ups

I found ours, Mortonhall Golf club and also booked Tee time there. However Norwegian decided the reschedule the take off time going out of Oslo. That meant no freakin golf …. Not only that, but there was no way we could watch the final day of Masters … Yeez, great start. To top it off, The one and only football team had one of their most important games … LiverpoolChelsea. This time there was no hiccups, Mo delivered …. Allah Allah.

When we first are speaking of great start. My other half of the trip, The Son or No 6 as we tend to call him (hey don’t even think I have six kids, two is plenty) decided it was wise to have friendly boxing fight the day before take off …. not so wise. Dislocated Shoulder and the views for golfing experiences are limited. He will be my one handed caddie on this trip and we will probably go from playing two rounds a day to playing one. I will make him practice chipping and putting though. No pain no gain and that is an area he definitely have room to improve.

The actual Journey

It all start great. In fact too great. Me being me, aka ShortSwing, the Scot, of you’d like or perhaps Free-rider, had read the rules of luggage and found it not necessary to check my golfbag in as a golfbag. I simple used that as luggage and the rest of the fancy clothing as carry-on. I was suspecting issues and argues at the airport. In fact not only suspecting, but expecting. I printed out Luggage rules to back my point and was ready for anything. Anything … but there was nothing. NOTHING at all … as Ronan Keating would sing.

That great start was a big disappointment. And I guess someone decided to do something about that disappointment. We had preebooked a car through rentalcars.com. The company was GreenMotion. I got some bad vibes already when we had to take a bus from the airport to even get to the company … Well there we met another couple that had taken the same plane as us and booked the same car … well at least through the same company. They told us people had been waiting for 2 hours to get their cars, so they had retreated. Being close to 21.00 who can blame them. We went over and got the same confirmed. We ended up taking a bus to Edinburgh, switch there and take the x7 to Dunbar.

At the switch stop, Princess St. No 6 asked if I remembered his bag, that I had been taken care of. …. Fuck no, shit no, hell no … and the list could go on. Totally forgot it on the bus. A back with 2 mac’s and all our charging equipment.

At 24 past 24 we got settled in at the apartment in Dunbar, after having a good Burger, a good BLT and some great Fries at Five Guys in Edinburgh. Still no Mac’s and no power. Flight mode all the way, and the alarm for 0700 was set. Not to play golf, but to look for a rental car and more important a Mac or two.
